Mr. Giles' quote is a little part of the play but serves as the theme throughout the whole play. His refusal to give in to the courts and his refusal to admit to admit anything only increased the defiance to the courts. The theme continues when John Proctor is exectued because his refusal. His strength was gained from Giles and will only effect more people to the end of the trials.

Giles Corey's response to the crushing he recieved from being mute to accusations of wizardry was remarkable. His strength to not give in to the hysteria of whitchcraft was one of the most powerful moments in the play.His only response was to put more weight on him. He would rather die a Christian man then either admit to being a wizard to save himself or deny it and give satisfaction to the courts for have power over him.
